Mira Sdot’s ceramic work arises from a profound connection to nature, material, and traditional methods of craftsmanship. Sdot is among the first artists in Israel to explore and internalize the secrets of Japanese ceramics, drawing inspiration from the aesthetic and material philosophy of this culture and translating it into a local, personal language.
Her creations are marked by formal humility, natural materials, and a preference for unrefined textures—those that bear the marks of time, fire, and earth. She frequently employs traditional firing techniques such as wood firing (anagama), which produces unpredictable surface effects—born from an ongoing dialogue between artist, kiln, wood, and clay. Each vessel in her work is the result of a slow, meticulous, and unpredictable process, in which time and matter take part as equal collaborators.
