On Monday, January 6, 2025, at 7:00 PM, there will be an online lecture and demonstration by artist Jonathan Kaplan:
Jonathan is an active ceramic artist for 56 years as a ceramic artist and designer, consultant, technician, lecturer, and writer. Jonathan is a master of molds and patterns; he designs and produces all his molds and patterns himself, and also uses found objects as raw material. Jonathan creates a wide variety of ceramic objects that celebrate form. He uses many methods to create works, with a variety of tools and techniques. The main influences on his works are architecture and geometry. Author of the book The Mold-Making Manual: The Art of Models, Molds, and Slip-Cast Ceramics.
“I have made a diverse body of work throughout my career, driven to make objects that are both highly designed and impeccably crafted. I look in awe at the symmetries of culture and am humbled by what remains as historical evidence in clay. With an acknowledgement of that deep history of ceramics, I endeavor to make choices in my work that will continue to engage and interest me. I am honored to be a part of this continuum and constantly reinvent my work by challenging myself. My studio practice has evolved over many years and it is important to always include others with me on this journey.”
The meeting will last about an 90 minutes.
