Core is a space of beginning and ending, a place where body and emotion meet and unravel. From this inner center, materials, memories, and actions emerge, and it is also the place to which bodily experiences return after injury, charging, and change. The exhibition examines vulnerability and harm not as a singular event, but as an ongoing process, and in doing so offers a contemplation of processes of contraction, processing, and separation.

The central installation functions, metaphorically, as a living body. Red threads descend from the wall, knotting into one another, tangling, and being absorbed into the floor. The red color evokes flesh, body, and surgical action, establishing a direct connection between material, body, and time. The threads bind wrapped objects that resemble organs or wounds. These function as pulsating living organisms; elements tied together and connected to a single core.

the loofah prints surrounding the gallery space preserve the memory of action and touch. The loofah, an organic material coated in porcelain by Rieger, operates simultaneously as an absorbing material and as one that scratches and wounds. In these works, the body and the object are returned to their basic materiality and to an ongoing bodily memory. On the floor rest a large white porcelain object shaped like a drop of dew. Porcelain, as a fragile and pure material, stands in contrast to the dense and charged red that fills the space. This object allow a moment to pause, absorb the tranquility, and breath. They do not negate the injury or the wound, but rather suggest the possibility of a different relationship with them—perhaps the beginning of a process of healing.
Core is the space in which obsession is exposed. The personal and familial story is embedded in the material and is not told through words, but through rhythm and repetition, through the pulse of a body.
